11月6日，在党的十八大号召下，文新院首届“记者节”在文渊楼9102教室开幕。校团委副书记刘涛，文新学院副院长段茂升、团总支书记梁书瀚、新闻系主任刘开寿等教师参加了此次活动。
活动在激昂的朗诵声中拉开了序幕。段茂升对活动给予了寄望。他希望今后进入新闻行业的同学要坚守道德底线，做最真实的自己，时刻锻炼自己，提高自身能力，做一个无愧于自己、无愧于亲友、对社会有用的人。郭欢代表全体参赛选手发言并宣誓要对新闻工作一直充满热情，保持坚定信念。刘涛和刘开寿为活动揭牌，宣布活动正式启动。
据悉，每年的11月8日是中国记者节，是中国仅有的行业性节日之一。新中国确立“记者节”，表明党和国家对新闻界和广大新闻工作者的关怀和重视。文新院开展“记者节”活动旨在丰富大学校园生活，繁荣校园文化，锻炼学生能力，展示我院学生风采。
